Tourism in Assam

Situated in north eastern India, Assam is a land of diverse natural wonders. There are vibrant waterfalls, lush tea gardens, rolling hills and meadows and forest greens with a vast array of wild animals inhabiting them. The state of Assam is bordered by Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan in the north, Manipur and Nagaland in the east and Tripura, Mizoram, Bangladesh and Meghalaya in the south. Hajo on the northern shore of river Brhammaputra is a melting pot of three different cultures - Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam in Assam. The largest river island in the world, Majuli is a Vaishnava pilgrim spot.
The Misisn and the Deoris tribes can be encountered in Majuli. Spectacular artificial lake and Shiva Temple are the major tourist attractions of Sibsagar. Haflong is the hill station of Assam. Tourists arrive here to watch colorful migratory and enjoy the scenic vistas. The archaeological sites in Tezpur are worth seeing. Various wild life parks are the major attractions of Assam. Kaziaranga National Park in the Golaghat District is one of the oldest parks in Assam.
The typical one horned rhinoceros, swamp deer, bison, tiger, leopard, jungle cat, langur, and numerous migratory birds can be glimpsed here. Other national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that have enhanced tourism in Assam are Manas National Park, Nameri National Park, Orang National Park, Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary, Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary and more.
